Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
尊敬的各位来宾，女士们先生们，
On behalf of IBBY International, I warmly welcome you to the opening of the 37th IBBY World Congress!
我谨代表国际儿童读物联盟，热烈欢迎各位参加第37届IBBY世界大会的开幕式！
The COVID-19 pandemic, postponed this Congress from last year and it is still affecting us through the necessary travel restrictions in place. So, although it is with great sorrow that so many of us cannot meet in the amazing city of Moscow as planned, our hearts are flying from all corners of the world and we are with you in spirit!
此次大会原定于2020年举行，然而突如其来的新冠疫情使我们今天才能这里相聚。时至今日，疫情对我们的生活依然产生着影响，旅行限制这一必要举措使我们无法自由出行。因此，许多人无法按原计划亲临莫斯科这座美丽的城市与我们共襄盛典，我对此深表遗憾。但我相信，我们的心正越过千山万水从世界各地汇集到一起，因为我们心灵相通！
Our warmest and most sincere congratulations, as well as our special thanks go to IBBY Russia and the Organizing Committee for their ceaseless care and massive effort to organize this first hybrid IBBY Congress! Thank you, Maria Vedenyapina, Angela Lebedeva, Denis Beznosov, Tatiana Lukonina and all the countless people behind the scenes who have worked so hard – you have overcome so many obstacles and set-backs that on behalf of IBBY International, I thank you one and all.

I would also like to extend our gratitude to the Congress Chair, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatiana Golikova, and to the Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications Vladimir Grigoriev for your continuous support of this Congress.

Let me also take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to all speakers for your professional contributions to the Congress online as well as in-person.

One of the challenges was to reach all participants not only in Moscow, but also across the world, on different continents, in different time zones, and in different languages. To do this IBBY Russia has worked with an IT company to develop an innovative Internet platform designed to meet the challenges of the 37th IBBY World Congress. This development will undoubtedly lay the basis for future online events, such as IBBY Congresses. It is an impressive achievement.
会议筹办期间，我们遇到的一大挑战便是与世界各地的与会者保持联系。除了莫斯科，他们当中的许多人身处不同的大陆和时区，使用着不同的语言。为了解决这一问题，IBBY俄罗斯分会与一家信息技术公司携手合作，打造出一款新颖的互联网平台。这一进展为未来线上活动的开展带来了极大的便利，令人耳目一新！
As IBBY members, we work towards bringing books and children together. Even though the current pandemic is testing our resources and imagination, there are many projects in the IBBY world that manage storytelling, workshops, seminars and more online or via mobile phones. Social media and websites can deliver many online resources!
作为IBBY的一员，我们团结一致，努力把孩子们和书籍联系在一起。尽管当下的疫情为资源的获得与管理带来了挑战，需要我们发挥超乎空前的想象力，但IBBY的诸多项目仍然为大家带来了一系列能在线上或手机上参加的故事会、工作坊以及研讨会等活动。社交媒体和网站上有着丰富多彩的资源！
Like the national sections, the IBBY Executive Committee has continued in its work and has regularly met via virtual meetings – many having not yet even met in-person!I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues on the IBBY Executive Committee, it has not been easy to keep IBBY moving ahead, but they have risen to the challenges and IBBY is stronger than ever. Others that deserve our thanks are Patsy Aldana as chair of the IBBY Trust for her tireless search for funding; Junko Yokota for leading the Hans Christian Andersen Award Jury; Petros Panaou and Janelle Mathis for their excellent editorship of Bookbird; and Ellis Vance for his much-appreciated advice and work as IBBY Treasurer. I would to especially like to thank Vice President Basarat Midhat Kazim for representing me in my role as the IBBY President at this Congress.

I would like to sincerely thank Valerie Coghlan and Evie Freeman for their exceptional work on the new IBBY publication: Bookbird. A Flight through Time. This is an outstanding book that records the history of Bookbird and, by doing so, much of IBBY’s history.
IBBY精彩纷呈的新书《书鸟，飞越时光》（Bookbird. A Flight through Time）记录了《书鸟》（Bookbird）杂志的历史，同时也反映了IBBY的发展历程。在此，我想感谢Valerie Coghlan和Evie Freeman。有了你们，这部新作才能大放异彩并与读者朋友们见面。
Despite the challenges of the past year the work done by Leigh Turina and Bonnie Ing at the IBBY Collection for Young People with Disabilities in Toronto has continued and the 2021 Outstanding selection of 40 titles has been a great success. Thank you both and appreciation also goes to the Toronto Public Library for facilitating this important and ongoing project.
面对疫情带来的艰巨挑战，我们依然取得了令人瞩目的成就。由Leigh Turina 和 Bonnie Ing在多伦多 负责的IBBY国际残障青少年书单项目依然继续推进；推荐了四十部作品的2021年精选书单也大获成功。感谢两位的付出，同时也感谢多伦多公共图书馆对这一重要项目自始至终的支持。
Our gratitude must also go to the IBBY Secretariat in Basel, which has remained open and working as usual keeping close contact with IBBY national sections and our working partners around the world. The Secretariat has developed social media platforms to share news of IBBY as well as about the current activities of the national sections. IBBY now has a YouTube channel, Facebook and Twitter feeds, Instagram and its own Blog – we shall see what new technology is available to us by the time of the next congress in Malaysia!

As the theme of this World Congress implies, we are delighted that despite all the difficulties and challenges, we are creating a great big world through children’s books. In this, the spirit of IBBY carried down from founder Jella Lepman is indomitable.
此次世界大会的主题暗示着一个事实：尽管经历了艰难险阻，我们仍在排除万难的同时用童书创造着伟大世界。对此，我们感到十分欣喜。IBBY创始人叶拉·莱普曼的精神始终影响着我们，使我们永不言弃。
During the pandemic we have learned to be resilient and adaptable. As we move forward to face new challenges with renewed optimism and confidence, we have to find new ways to bring the joy of reading as well as access to high-quality books to children everywhere.
疫情使我们学会了顺应时势，并把自己锻炼得顽强不屈。如今，我们再次心怀乐观自信的心态整装待发，准备开始下一段旅程。在此，我们必须开拓创新，用崭新的方式将阅读的快乐传递给世界各地的孩子们，并为他们带去高质量图书。
Enjoy this special Congress as it offers many opportunities and new ways of communication. Nevertheless, even as we celebrate, we must not forget our colleagues in the most difficult places: Haiti, Afghanistan, Gaza, Lebanon, El Salvador, to mention just a few. You are in our thoughts.
此次世界大会带来了诸多机会以及全新的沟通方式，大家定能感到耳目一新。尽管如此，我们仍不能忘记那些在局势动荡之地工作的同仁们，他们中部分人身处海地、阿富汗、加沙地带、黎巴嫩和萨尔瓦多。我想向他们传达的讯息是：我们与你们同在。
We miss each other and I look forward to addressing you in person in Putrajaya in 2022!
